A Gateway to Leading Drama Schools

The One-Year Foundation is an intensive, full-time conservatoire training for actors who want to build serious foundations and prepare for entry into leading drama schools and professional training environments.

Far more than a preparatory course in name, it offers rigorous daily practice, high artistic standards, and immersion in the same demanding training culture that shapes our professional programmes.

About the Programme

The programme introduces students to the demands, discipline, and depth of professional actor training through a sustained year of practical work.

Students develop essential tools in acting, voice, movement, text work, ensemble practice, and audition technique. As the year progresses, the training moves from foundational exploration towards greater precision, applied scene work, and public performance.

Embedded within FONACT’s wider artistic environment and taught within the standards of a professional conservatoire, the programme helps students build discipline, awareness, resilience, and a strong technical base for further training.

Whether approached as a bridge toward leading drama schools or as the beginning of a serious artistic path, the year offers a solid, ambitious foundation on which to grow.

Building The Actor’s Foundations

The One-Year Foundation offers a clear and demanding introduction to the actor’s craft through daily studio practice.

Students work on presence, listening, responsiveness, vocal and physical awareness, text engagement, and ensemble discipline, while developing the confidence and openness needed to grow creatively.

As the year progresses, students move from foundational exercises into applied projects, rehearsal processes, and public presentation. The programme culminates in a full-scale theatre production, giving students direct experience of rehearsal and performance within a professional framework.

The year culminates in a full-scale public production, giving students the opportunity to experience rehearsal and performance within a professional framework. The programme stands as a complete experience in itself, while also preparing students strongly for further training.
