Student Life
Life at Fonact
Fonact is located in the heart of the Fontainebleau forest, about one hour from Paris. Fontainebleau is renowned for the historic Château de Fontainebleau, which once belonged to the kings of France. It is also the home of INSEAD, one of the world’s most elite international business schools. The region’s forest and remarkable cultural heritage are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it attract millions of visitors every year. The school is situated in the centre of the cosmopolitan town of Fontainebleau where there are lots of shops and restaurants.
Fonact has several rooms available for direct rental to full-time students which are rented on a first come first served basis. All other accommodation options are organised independently between the student and external landlords. The school is more than happy to offer support in finding accommodation or provide any necessary paperwork to facilitate the process.
Please note that if you are a non-European student, you will need a valid passport and possibly a visa to be able to stay in France.
Student Wellbeing
Fonact prioritises the health and safety of our students, staff and community. Whilst our buildings are open for teaching, visitors to the School during the term will be strictly limited to those of absolute necessity, such as visiting artists and contractors, who must obtain prior permission before arrival.
At Fonact we acknowledge that taking part in intensive training can be challenging and stressful at times. The wellbeing of our students is of the utmost importance and we have a number of services in place to ensure our students feel cared for throughout the training.
We know how vital it is to provide a calm, safe space where you are able to reflect on the challenges you face, both in your training and your life outside the rehearsal room. We offer a comprehensive range of support services designed to meet your welfare needs, which includes:
- Counselling
- Physiotherapy
- Accommodation advice
- International student support.
Equality, Diversity & Anti-Racism
As recent global events have shown, there are pressing measures to be taken in the fight against racism. At Fonact, we are fully committed to the global movement of Black Lives Matter and the fight against systemic racism. We strive to create an environment in which unconscious bias is dismantled and in which racism and prejudice are never tolerated.
We stand as allies in this movement and with the LGBTQ+ community with the same passion that drives our activity at Fonact. To enable greater diversity and equal opportunity, we have created clear and transparent policies and a Diversity Committee, who meet bi-annually to explore the ways in which Fonact has, and still can, grow, evolve and learn.
We are actively engaged in the search for external support to educate ourselves further and to understand where we can do better. We understand that there is more for us to learn and we are committed to this journey. Our full-time programme welcomes any artist from around the world that shares our love and passion for theatre.
As we continue to grow, we want to continue to attract diverse faculty and students. We want to support real change, create a world we are proud of, and an environment where each and every student thrives.
